Research Experience

  • Master’s Thesis (July 2005-October 2007): University of Maryland, Department of Orthodontics, Baltimore MD.The Effects of Mouthrinses on the Properties of Elastomeric Chains. Evaluated the effects of mouthrinses on the force decay, percent extension, loop configuration, color, and force-displacement curves of elastomeric chains. This thesis was carried out in the laboratory of Dr. J.A. vonFraunhofer (Professor of Biomaterials, University of Maryland). Defended October 2007.
  • NIH sponsored Short Term Research Training Program (June 2002-August 2002): University of Maryland, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Baltimore MD.Serum Cytokines in Children with Acute Necrotizing Gingivitis. Evaluated serum cytokine changes associated with the pathogenesis of Acute Necrotizing Gingivitis frequently encountered in malnourished African children. Conducted extensive literature review on the impact of prenatal/neonatal malnutrition on the growth and development of oral tissues, particularly the deciduous dentition. Assisted a Ph.D. candidate in performing biochemical assays and statistical analyses. Completed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. These projects were carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Cyril O. Enwonwu (Professor of Biomedical Sciences, University of Maryland).
